Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Real change happens as distorted beliefs are corrected, unprocessed trauma is processed, unmet needs are met, and fragmented experiences are integrated.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is an evidence-based approach to psychotherapy that is both empowering and gentle. It was developed over the past 20 years in the therapy room with clients as a way of understanding and treating human problems in an effective, nonpathologizing manner. Through somatic awareness and guided insight, we are able to build connection with your interior world by breaking it down into “parts”.

Imagine the common experience of wanting to make a change, yet becoming overwhelmed by self-doubt or anxiety that you  feel unable to take the first step. Or perhaps you have the best of intention to communicate calmly with your partner or child, yet something inside of you gets activated as soon as you feel misunderstood or disrespected. Or you find yourself repeating an undesired behavior and feeling powerless to change it.

Do any of these examples sound familiar? IFS therapy helps to break your interior experience down into “parts”. Together, this allows us to bring compassionate curiosity to the feelings, beliefs, unmet needs, or stored experiences driving the unwanted reaction or behavior and actually attending to it. At its heart, IFS is an experiential model focused on rewiring your internal experience in the therapy room so that you can heal, grow, and come back to who you really are at your core! This allows you to feel more at peace inside and more available for connection in your relationships. Many peopel find IFS helpful because it honors all parts of their experience without judgment. This creates space for healing past wounds, building inner trust, and living in a way that feels more whole and aligned.
